Thing 5 #1, #2, #3

Thinkfinity Assignment: HYPERLINK TO THE WEBSITES

Photojournalism

Synopsis:

This lesson introduces the idea of photos telling a story (either individually or collectively). It also gives tips on how to take good photos to tell a story.

How I am going to use it:

I had my Advanced Photography students create a final Culture Project last year, but they spent much time, during the semester, writing about different photographs and the stories or emotions they told. I would like to replace the Culture Project with an imovie, prezi, or animoto project that includes ideas presented in this lesson plan idea. I would like students to take a minimum number of photos that tell a story, and put that story to music with captions and/or writing to help explain the story.

Courage/Theme Assignment

Synopsis: This lesson involves students taking photos for a particular prompt or theme such as “courage.” After they take 10 photos, they pick the 3 best photos that relate to the theme. They post these photos on a blog and respond to each other’s photos. They next write an essay on courage and relate the them to characters from books they have read.

How I am going to use it:

I would like to assign a theme to my Advanced Photography students for an assignment. I might give them all the same theme such as courage, or I might let them individually choose their own. I may use my blog and have them post their photos and responses there, or I may use Moodle or googledocs, sites my students already use to post critiques. I will have them type up an explanation about how their 3 photos represent the theme and/or what they say about them. I will then have them critique each other’s, agreeing and/or disagreeing with at least one other student’s representation of the theme.
