23 Things - Thing 3

The easiest habit for me is 7 1/2...Play! I enjoy learning new technology and then experimenting with it. I don't necessarily seek new technology to use at work or in my personal life, but when it is introduced to me, I will explore what I have learned and go beyond to learn even more! For instance, when I learned how to use googledocs over the summer working at KISD, I then wanted to use the calendar, customize my igoogle page, look over all the gadgets, and then incorporate what I had learned in my classroom! I now have students sharing most of their assignments with me and with each other using google documents and google presentations. They upload their own, and sometimes found, images, and they even uploaded their imovie projects at the end of the semester! I have also recently learned how to post a link from my Moodle page to a googledoc that I can make changes to whenever I want.

The hardest habit for me is keeping the end in mind. I am good about seeing what the end needs to be and setting goals and sharing them with my students, but I need to do a better job with reviewing those goals or "ends" periodically instead of just waiting until students are done. For instance, I shared goals for my beginning Photography class the first week, and I posted the PowerPoint Presentation on Moodle after that. As the semester progressed, I would remind myself that a certain assignment was touching on one of my goals, and I knew that my goals were being met, but I didn't remind students of this until the end of the semester when they wrote me a letter and let me know if they thought I had achieved the goals for the class. To make this habit easier or to better myself with this habit, I will write in my lesson plan book a reminder to periodically review each of my goals as students are completing assignments to fulfill them.
